Are Natural Herbal Diet Pills Really Safe?

Obesity is not just a vanity issue. While looking and being thin makes people feel better about themselves and society has deemed it important to be thin, obesity is also hazardous for your health. Being extremely overweight can cause high blood pressure, poor circulation, diabetes, and heart disease, to name a few. It can be an arduous task to take off excess weight, and with all of the gimmicks out there, the process can get confusing and dangerous.

People interested in losing weight should always do their homework and be extra cautious when it comes to choosing a weight loss program. Natural weight loss methods are always the best way to take off the weight, so many people opt to take all-natural or herbal diet pills versus synthetic, prescription medication. When we think about diet pills, most people will gravitate towards natural or herbal ones.

The idea of an herbal remedy is appealing because we think of it as something much gentler on the system, yet just as effective. In reality, however, not all herbal diet pills are completely safe. In fact, some natural ingredients can be hazardous to one’s health.

Guarana is one such ingredient that can cause health problems. It is all natural and often found in diet pills because it gives people energy and causes the body to burn fat faster. In reality, it can cause heart palpitations and raise blood pressure. Some herbal weight loss pills can be dangerous simply because they are not regulated by the FDA.

Herbal medications and remedies are not subjected to the same rigorous testing that prescription medications are. This means that manufacturers’ products can be subject to contamination, or the ingredients can be less than safe for human consumption. The scariest part is that no one knows since there is no regulation taking place.

Another risk involved with taking herbal diet pills is simply the risk of losing money. For a few years now, the supplement known as Hoodia has swept the diet pill world by storm. While the concept of Hoodia sounds great, the facts are that it is just not as effective as everyone claims. In fact, there has been no substantial evidence to show that Hoodia helps people burn fat or suppresses their appetite.
An herb known as St. John’s Wort has been exposed as being very dangerous when consumed in large quantities, yet it can still be purchased at just about any drug store or herbal store in the nation today. It is especially dangerous when mixed with prescription depression medications, so patients taking these types of medicines should be wary of it.

The idea of herbal, natural diet pills is very appealing, but there are risks associated with taking them, much like any other supplement.
